The Drive of Sasa Kolowrat is already in its thirteenth year
Just as last year the procession of classic cars took place in Tachovsko. The Drive of Sasa Kolowrat took place in Přimda and the surrounding Czech and German towns on Saturday 15th June 2013. The sound of engines and the smell of petrol engulfed Přimda for the thirteenth time in honour of Alexandr “Saša” Kolowrat-Krakowsky. This year served also as a remembrance, as it would have been the 70th birthday of Saša’s nephew: the notable benefactor Frantisek Tomáš Kolowrat-Krakowský.
The event, just as in the preceeding years, was organised by the Český les Motor Veteran Club. Its drirector, Antonín Hofmeister, discusses several towns where the procession passes through: it starts on Saturday at 11.00 at the castle in Bor. The drive continues through Stráž na Přimdu, through Rozvadov to Vohenstrauss. In Vohenstrauss the participants are able to take a lunchtime break offering them the chance to see the town. The procession continues through Waidhaus and Rozvadov back to the castle in Bor, where the event concludes in the evening with a cultural program.
On the long route of almost 100 km it is possible to see a wide range of classic cars of all makes. The veterans are divided into different categories, their range determined by year of production between the years 1918 and 1982. The drive offers the chance to see classic cars and motorbikes, and also newer models of cabriolets.
The whole event is held under the auspices of the Kolowrat-Krakowský family, the historical owner of the massive property in the surroundings of Primda castle. Alexandr Saša Kolowrat-Krakowský was the great-uncle of the current representatives of the noble family – sixteen-year-old Maximilian and fourteen-year-old Francesca.
Now in the year when their father Frantisek Tomáš Kolowrat-Krakowský would have celebrated his 70th birthday, Antonín Hofmeister remembers how his cooperation with the Kolowrat-Krakowský family first came about: “Due to the connection of Alexandr Kolowrat-Krakowský to motor racing we contacted Count František Tomáš Kolowrat-Krakowský, to see if he would be interested in holding the drive under his auspices. He gladly agreed. It not only continued the traditions of his ancestors, but also helped draw attention to the nature of the beautiful Tachov region, to which the noble family is connected”.
The life partner and trustee of the family property, JUDr Dominika Kolowrat-Krakowská is a big fan of the drive and of the veterans club. Along with her children, Maximilian and Francesca, she is an active participant every year: “The beauty of the veterans has helped me to rediscover Frantisek Tomas. I am glad that in a month, when we meet on the anniversary of his early passing, I can take part in an event that brought him so much joy, in the area that he so loved.“
Anyone who owns a classic car can register for the drive. The entry fee is calculated according to category. Details of this and the registration form can be found on the website of the Auto Moto Veterans Club Český Les: www.amvc-ceskyles.cz/jazdask.html.
